How to get my dad to lose weight?
Q. He's a bit overweight n has a pretty sedentary lifestyle. He also drinks sometimes.

I want to reduce his risk of atherosclerosis.

The thong is he can't go ona vigorous wight loss plan.

What are simple exercises he can do?
Also what diet changes?
Thx

A. Well really we all know what we need to do to lose weight, it's a pretty common notion of eating better and exercising more.

It's a matter of getting him to do it.

Ultimately he has to want to do it.

I would suggest having an intervention of sorts where your whole family sets him down and tells him that they love him and they want to help him loose weight so they can all enjoy that love for a long happy fulfilling life.

Also it would be best that the whole family diets and exercises together; ie. it wouldn't fair for everyone to set and watch tv while your dad is at the gym, so work out together.

Also, eat the same diet food; don't expect him to eat a bowl of salad while everyone else is eating junk food.

For exercise I would do weight training 2-3 times a week and cardio 2-4 times a week, but not on the same days.

Mix up the exercises for cross training and so you don't get bored; ie. don't do a treadmill every day; run one day, swim another, bike the next, ect.

It also helps from preventing plateaus; ie. if you do the same exercise over and over again you just get to the point where your body is used to doing one thing, not improving.

diet changes?

more fruit and vegetables.

less junk food.

limit calorie intake to 2200(2000 for females).

drink more water; sodas and juices are "empty calories."

If he must drink alcohol, make it light beers, or mixed drinks made with diet sodas/juices.

is it possible to lose weight due to stress?
Q. i have been eating a lot more than usual... and i am in a very stressful time in my life... but despite the junk and tonnes of food i have been eating i have also lost weight... is it possible that this wight loss is due to my stress and anxiety?

A. stress hes different effects on different people. In some cases person starts to eat foods and specialy junk foods in an unnormal way(like you)and generally it makes the person to get fat.but there are some people like you that their body because of sudden shock of changing behavior(including sudden increasing stress)rejects to show natural reactions and stands against them. This problem will be cured just by relaxing and decreasing stress pressure.

Lexapro and Seroquel making me gain weight?
Q. I am on both, since 1st week of June. Now, two months later, I feel great, but I have gained several pounds all in my stomach and abdomen.. I am 47 and look pregnant. I was wondering if it was BOTH medications or just one of them doing this? I am not very hungry, I dont over eat much at all. I was thinking about Wellbutrin, since one of the side effects are wight loss, could it be perscribed with what I am taking now, anyone ever do it?

A. Seroquel.

It is known to cause weight gain, particularly in the abdomen. There were lawsuits about it because it makes some people gain so much weight that they get Type 2 diabetes.

Seroquel also causes cravings for food at night and sweet cravings. Watch out for this, because you can gain weight by eating at night.

Lexapro is supposed to be "weight neutral." Only about 5% of people gain weight on Lexapro.

MANY people gain weight on Seroquel. Next to Zyprexa, it is the worst anti-psychotic for causing weight gain. And its all in the abdomen. It is very characteristic.
