Q. As I read through health questions and answers and hear conversations, I do NOT understand why women keep referring to their vulvas as their vaginas. Even worse is when they call it their "down there," as if it's some unspeakable nether-region-of-doom.
What sociological issues cause these widespread misnomers?

A. I think a lot of women don't realize calling their vulva a vagina is like saying mouth when they mean face. Also a lot of women are embarrassed of their reproductive anatomy and feel uncomfortable using traditional terms thus resorting to nicknames.
Perhaps there should be a program that offers sex ed after adulthood since it seems the high school version is either lacking or isn't paid attention too.

Does it bother you when men answer questions in this section?
Q. Doesn't it bother you slightly when men try to answer questions about women's health issues, particularly menstruation? I think this is one of those topics that is best left to the ladies who deal with the 35 years of monthly inconvenience, don't you?
A. Unless the man is an ob/gyn he is just guessing at these questions. I think woman who deal with this most of their lives will have the best answers. Sometimes even better than the docs!
Is there a way to chat with a health expert online for free?
Q. I found a website that would let you ask a question to a women's health expert but you had to pay. Is there a way to do this online and have it be free (and actually be a medical expert?)?
Please no making fun of or dumb remarks, it's just a question.
