Q. Female
18 years old
120 pounds, 5'6"
I eat about 1500 calories a day, and I want to lose 10 pounds. Exercise is hard with my schedule, but I do try to bicycle at least a couple times a week/do pilates. Should I cut my calories in order to lose weight, or is 1500 a good daily amount? Any weight-loss suggestions are welcome.

A. I wouldn't recommend going under 1500 calories per day. The other concern is if your 5'6", why are you trying to drop to 110#? It isn't recommended to go under 114# because your BMI will drop below 18.5, which is considered unhealthy.

what cleanse should i do to just start my weight loss?
Q. I want to do a cleanse to jump start my weight loss and i wanted some suggestions. I really lack discipline and that is why i never stay on a weight loss program. I want a cleanse to help me to jump start a lifestyle change. I've heard about the master cleanse/lemonade diet. I wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions. I am not starting a cleanse to just lose weight for a specific event, i want it to be a precursor to a lifestyle change.
A. The basics of weight loss are not as complicated as people make it out to be. You need to simply change your diet to healthy whole foods, fruits and veggies and get plenty of exercise.
It all depends on what you want to get out of it. Check out my fitness blog for more fitness info and ideas:

A. Huh... I thought I just answered this question.
St. John's Wort is very good for mood support and depression, but it does have the warning that it may make you more photosensitive (sensitive to light), so you shouldn't stay out in the sun too long with it. A couple of other very beneficial options are SAM-e and/or 5-HTP.
As far as memory, Fish Oil (Omega 3) is very good, but it's not the only natural option. There's also Ginkgo Biloba, Acetyl L-Carnitine, Phosphatidylserine (abbreviated PS), DMAE, Huperzine A, Bacopa Monnieri (or Monniera), and Vinpocetine that are very effective.
Weight loss is actually one of the hardest ones to make suggestions for on a few reasons, the main one being that there are many aspects to weight loss. Chromium Picolinate is a good option because it helps boost metabolism, but there are many people who don't get enough help from that. Tonalin CLA and/or L-Carnitine are another couple popular option that helps to burn fat, too.
However, none of the weight loss supplements will help much without some exercise and a healthy meal plan. And exercise doesn't have to be anything proper or official, you don't need to go to a gym, wear certain clothes, and you don't have to be around people who are in better shape. Exercise can be done while you're at work, watching TV, and even just doing everyday tasks... take the stairs instead of the elevator, park at the far end of the parking lot, walk around the building at work during breaks (especially if you sit all day), work various muscles during the commercials when you watch TV (crunch your abs, stand up repeatedly, lift pop bottles or some sort of weight, etc), run around with the kids for 5 minutes at home (if applicable), etc, etc. It doesn't have to be "typical exercise".
Good luck with everything and I hope I helped!
