Q. My mother has a 9 year old Golden Retriever and it is kinda overweight since she moved into a condo with no yard for the dog to run and play anymore. She feeds Evolve Senior and loves it, but would like to mix in Evolve Weight Management. I know that you should never mix different brands of food but not sure the rules of "same brand" mixing. PAWS, I have read your answers, if you are out there I need your help!! Thanks
A. Who told you that? People have all sorts of weird ideas of what diets are best for dogs, some quite fanatical. Dogs like humans will put on weight if they don't get enough exercise or are desexed or getting on in years, they will become over weight as their food intake (including titbits and treats) is beyond what they need to remain healthy, and goldens are food lovers, and will steal food if they can. I had one so know! Just don't over do the food. Cut the dried food down by the recommended dose too, add some raw meat or tinned fish with the oil and cooked veg to make a filler. Like a level cup of good dried food, your mum can mix it with some raw meat or fish and cooked veg, Poor a little hot water over it etc. No more than two and half cups, and give her the occasional raw bone to chew on, because the weight reduced stuff is generally lower in fat. That is all. Just check the packet nourishment analysis and see. You can mix it up. But to me that is a waste of time, just keep to the Weight Management
food, Cut by half the recommended dose and add meat/fish and veg to it.

What is a good recipe for homemade dogfood for overweight dogs?
Q. I have two dogs that are overweight. I feed them Weight Management dry food but they are used to having canned food mixed with this. Does anyone know of a good diet recipe for dogs?
A. hi,
You don't have to switch to a "lite" food, but you might want to since it means you won't have to cut back quite as much on the amount you feed your dog. (Hey, if it was easy for us to deny our dogs we wouldn't be in this fix in the first place.) Regardless, he'll be eating less, so help him feel satisfied by adding low-calorie, high-fiber foods to his bowl.

hope this helps.

How much should I feed our Golden Retriever?
Q. Our golden is a little over weight. We feed her diamond dog food - weight management. I have decided to take over the situation and change up her diet to try and help her keep the weight off. My boy friend does "2 Scoops" of dog food every morning. To me, it looks like too much. How many cups of food should we be giving her a day?
A. 2 scoops every morning? You need to give your Golden Retriever 2 meals, 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening this helps for metabolism. Get a dog food scoop that says how many cups it is, or you can use a kitchen measuring cup-they are cheap.. Give your dog 1 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 a cup in the evening, thats a total of 2 cups per day. Also make sure she gets 45-60 minutes of exercise per day. You could maybe take her on a 30-45 minute walk and then play a 15 minute game of fetch with her.
How to cleanse your whole body naturally?
Q. I have trouble with energy lately. I wake up and I'm still tired. Although, doctors that I have seen said the same thing; nothing is wrong. My friend's mother suggested that I do a natural whole body cleanse; but how? I have seen many products claiming that they can help you people get back the energy they've once had and lose weight along with it. Can you tell me the best daily diet regimen to cleanse the whole body, lose weight, and weight management after losing the pounds?
A. Your whole body, liver, kidneys, skin, guts etc. is a natural purifying system - body cleanses will not make you feel better beyond the placebo effect, which to be fair does seem to work to some degree - if you believe in it that is.
What should help is to have regular sleeping and waking times with a full night of sleep. Also eat varied and healthily and try to incorporate 6 pcs. of fruits or vegetable in your daily diet and make sure to drink enough water. Daily exercise will also help you feeling more energetic.
I've found that the easiest and most reliable way to loose weight is to eat healthily and sensibly - and count calories. Look up your basic calorie consumption online - there are free programs that will calculate this for you based on your gender, height, weight and age and based on this eat and drink 500-1000 less calories a day than you burn naturally.
Example:
Say your basic calorie consumption is 2000 calorie/day
This means that if you do nothing, but sit in front of the TV all day, you can eat 1000-1500 calories that day and still loose weight.
If you jump on your exercise bike for an hour and burn 600 calories, then you can eat 1600-2100 calories that day and still loose weight.
It's not rocket science and the calorie counting can be a good motivation. If you know that those cookies are 400 calories, then are they really worth that 1 1/2 hour walk, you'd have to take to burn off those 400 calories? :)
